Question of the Day #17

X is the lower house of the Parliament in the United Kingdom. It meets at the Westminster Palace in London.

Although the X does not formally elect the prime minister, by convention and in practice, the prime minister is answerable to the House, and therefore must maintain its support. In this way, the position of the parties in the House is an overriding importance. Thus, whenever the office of prime minister falls vacant, the monarch appoints the person who has the support of the house, or who is most likely to command the support of the house—normally the leader of the largest party in the house—while the leader of the second-largest party becomes the leader of the Opposition.

X is also the name of a very popular bistro in Bangalore.

The address of Coffee Chemistry, a famous coffee shop in Bangalore is 23rd Cross Rd, Banashankari Stage II, Banashankari, Bangalore Karnataka 560070.

These guys are known for their "Kopi Luvak" or "Civet" coffee, which is coffee made out of the feaces of a certain cat or civet. This cost is the result of a very unique and somewhat unconventional way of processing those beans. You see, the beans are first eaten by civets (small, cat-like mammals), who then pass these beans through their digestive systems. The same undigested beans are later collected from their faeces.

Just outside the shop is a famous, actually, world famous equation, which is a play on the real one, which replaces the actual elements with Energy, Coffee and Milk.

A little history to this equation -

Eighteenth century theories on the correlation of ____ and ______ included that devised by the English scientist Isaac Newton in 1717, who speculated that light particles and matter particles were interconvertible in "Query 30" of the Opticks, where he asks: "Are not the gross bodies and light convertible into one another, and may not bodies receive much of their activity from the particles of light which enter their composition?"Swedish scientist and theologian Emanuel Swedenborg, in his Principia of 1734 theorised that all matter is ultimately composed of dimensionless points of "pure and total motion". He described this motion as being without force, direction or speed, but having the potential for force, direction and speed everywhere within it.

Which miraculous equation, often synonymous with the notion of science itself, is being played on by Coffee Chemistry?

Question of the Day #15

The word X, though commonly recognised today as a granular substance found in kitchens across the Indian subcontinent, has an ancient linguistic ancestry that dates back over two millennia. Its root lies in classical Sanskrit, where a similar-sounding word referred not to sweetness per se, but to the idea of breaking, fragmenting, or a piece of a whole. This etymological link is not coincidental: the original form of X in Sanskrit was closely tied to the act of dividing or cleaving something solid. In this context, X originally meant a “fragment” or “lump” — not necessarily edible, but any broken-off part. From here, the term narrowed in meaning over time, eventually referring to crystallised sweet fragments derived from boiling down plant-based juices.

This transformation from general fragmentation to a specific food item happened in tandem with the development of sugar-making techniques in the Indian subcontinent, particularly through the processing of the stalk of a tall tropical grass. Ancient Indian chemists pioneered the early crystallisation methods of this plant’s juice. As the technology evolved, so did the vocabulary. X came to refer specifically to the unrefined, crystalline form produced before the invention of modern refining techniques. It was distinct from liquid sweeteners or syrups and was highly valued not only in local consumption but also in regional trade.

As knowledge of X spread east and west via trade routes and texts, the word traveled too. In medieval Persian and Arabic writings, adapted forms of the term began to appear, eventually entering European languages through translations and commerce, forming the basis of the English word for a refined version of X. Yet, in South Asia, X retained its older form and associations — symbolising a pre-industrial, earthy version of sweetness still used in traditional cooking and Ayurvedic preparations today.

On an entirely new perspective, X can also be called as a "part" of something and to symbolise the very definition of part or segment, two Indian states have a suffix X. The first one is known for the number 7, please connect the clues, and the other is known, quiet literally as the northern segment.

X is also a popular suffix for Maharashtra based sweets and delicacies.

Question of the Week #3

Few beverages carry such a layered linguistic journey as X. Its name, though deceptively modern to the ear, traces a lineage rooted in ancient tongues. The earliest form of the word stemmed from a Latin phrase meaning "water of life" — aqua vitae. As this term passed through the hands of Christian monks preserving knowledge in Gaelic-speaking lands, it transformed into a local phonetic variant that sounded closer to uisge beatha. Over time, as this phrase was used conversationally, the first word shortened phonetically and evolved into something that would sound strikingly familiar to modern ears, especially after centuries of contact between English and Celtic dialects. Thus, X was born not by invention, but by linguistic erosion and assimilation.

The transformation wasn’t merely phonetic; it was cultural. X began as a medicinal tonic, distilled by monks in monasteries for treating ailments and prolonging life. Over time, it outgrew the monastery walls and became embedded in the rural economy of certain misty highland regions and green isles. The process of crafting X became a folk art, passed through generations. It gained fame not just for its unique warming quality but for its association with resilience, rebellion, and even sacred rituals. Some say X was once traded like currency, and legends abound of barrels being hidden during times of foreign taxation.

By the time colonial influence reached the shores of the New World, X had journeyed along with settlers, mutating slightly in spelling and technique depending on which side of the Atlantic one stood. Though laws, tariffs, and temperance movements tried to suppress its rise, X became synonymous with identity — national, regional, and personal. Today, whether aged in oak, peated with smoke, or smuggled during prohibition, the name X still echoes with the soul of its linguistic ancestors.

Excuse the poetry.

What is X, found on every college student's checklist or every afterparty's provisions?

The largest (by revenue) movie of 2025, A X movie, was released on the 4th of April in India.

Struggling doorknob salesman Steve breaks into a mine to fulfil a childhood dream, where he discovers the Orb of Dominance and the Earth Crystal. He discovers that when combined, they create a portal that transports him to the Overworld, a world where the terrain is made of easily manipulated cubes. He builds his own paradise and later stumbles across a portal to a hellish world called the Nether. He is imprisoned by Malgosha, the gold-obsessed piglin ruler of the Nether who gravely discourages creativity. Because the Orb would allow her to control the Overworld, Steve has his dog Dennis escape with the Orb and Crystal and hide them under his bed in the real world.

The film has sparked boisterous reactions and disorderly conduct from viewers, particularly American and British adolescent boys, with some partaking in a viral Internet phenomenon on TikTok, alongside other social media platforms. Participants would often react enthusiastically to moments in the film that have been the subject of Internet memes, such as spontaneously erupting into loud cheers, jumping in excitement, dancing, or throwing popcorn when a character exclaims, "Y!" Other viral lines include "Flint and steel!" and "I... am Steve", though neither approached the frenzy surrounding "Y!" In one screening, viral videos emerged documenting audience members hoisting a live after the quote and promptly ejected from the theatre in Provo, Utah; another involved a group setting off fire extinguishers and smoke bombs, suffocating fellow theatregoers; while another led to a violent altercation in the parking lot outside the theater after adults asked four teenagers to quiet down. The trend has also spread to Australia and South Africa.

Hurry Up Tomorrow, also an album by this artist X, was a 2025 movie directed by Trey Edward Shults.

Plagued by insomnia, a musician gets pulled into a nightmarish odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.

Music superstar X warms up and performs at a headlining concert. Afterwards, he parties and does drugs with his manager, Lee. Despite encouragement from Lee, X suffers from a lack of desire to perform due to growing depression following a recent break-up. Meanwhile, somewhere in Los Angeles, Anima, a fan of X's music, sets a house on fire before driving to X's next concert, avoiding messages from her mother.

Before the concert, X is diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia and considers cancelling, but is convinced to perform by Lee. Before embarking onstage, X leaves a foul-mouthed voicemail to his ex-girlfriend, blaming her for his depression. Anima sneaks into the concert, where X loses his voice and abruptly walks offstage. Anima then sneaks backstage and meets X. Intrigued, waves away security and spends the night with Anima in Pacific Park and later, at a hotel. Anima breaks down after X plays a portion of, "Hurry Up Tomorrow", relating to its themes of loneliness and abandonment.

The following day, as X readies to return to his tour, he overhears Anima and her mother arguing on the phone about the arson. Anima aggressively prevents X from leaving, asking him to emotionally open up to her, but he dismisses her. Angered, Anima knocks him unconscious by hitting him with a champagne bottle. X then has a vivid nightmare of walking alone from the hotel room onto the streets, with his childhood self staring back at him.

X refuses to discuss the songs with her. Lee arrives to find X, having tracked his phone to the hotel. Anima opens the door and tries to get him to leave, pulling out a knife when he refuses. After a violent struggle, Anima fatally stabs Lee in the neck. Anima then douses X with gasoline, threatening to burn him if he doesn't emotionally open up to her. X finally speaks to Anima, pacifying her by singing “Hurry Up Tomorrow". She then releases him from the bed and sets the room on fire as she leaves.

Abel exits the hotel room, which leads him directly backstage before a concert. He stares at himself in front of a mirror, visibly shaken by the events.

Not at all a true story but inspired by true events of X's friend, who is X and which depressing song from "Hurry Up Tomorrow" does he play, not in the movie, but according to the fanbase, he should have played?

AL-2881-1, Dinkʼinesh, is a collection of several hundred pieces of fossilized bone comprising 40 percent of the skeleton of a female of the hominin species Australopithecus afarensis.

Found in Hadar, Ethiopia, 1974.

Dink'inesh's cause of death has not been determined. The specimen does not show the signs of post-mortem bone damage characteristic of animals killed by predators and then scavenged. The only visible damage is a single carnivore tooth mark on the top of her left pubic bone, believed to have occurred at or around the time of death, but which was not necessarily related to her death. Her third molars were erupted and slightly worn and, therefore it was concluded that she was fully matured with completed skeletal development. There are indications of degenerative disease to her vertebrae that do not necessarily indicate old age. It is believed that she was a mature but young adult when she died.

Fact file follows.

The Proto-Germanic meaning of *gudą and its etymology is uncertain. It is generally agreed that it derives from a Proto-Indo-European neuter passive perfect participle *ǵʰu-tó-m.: 193–194  This form within (late) Proto-Indo-European itself was possibly ambiguous, and thought to derive from a root *ǵʰew- "to pour, libate" (the idea survives in the Dutch verb gieten, meaning "to pour") (Sanskrit huta), or from a root *ǵʰaw- (*ǵʰewh2-) "to call, to invoke" (Sanskrit hūta). Sanskrit hutá = "having been sacrificed", from the verb root hu = "sacrifice", but a slight shift in translation gives the meaning "one to whom sacrifices are made." Thus it can be related to the ancient Indian name Gautam and its Sanskrit roots.

During the complex christianization of the Germanic tribes of Europe, there were many linguistic influences upon the Christian missionaries. One example post downfall of the western Roman Empire are the missionaries from Rome led by Augustine of Canterbury. Augustine's mission to the Saxons in southern Britain was conducted at a time when the city of Rome was a part of a Lombardic kingdom. The translated Bibles which they brought on their mission were greatly influenced by the Germanic tribes they were in contact with, chief among them being the Lombards and Franks. The translation for the word deus of the Latin Bible was influenced by the then current usage by the tribes for their highest deity, namely Wodan by Angles, Saxons, and Franks of north-central and western Europe, and X-an by the Lombards of south-central Europe around Rome. There are many instances where the name X-an and Wodan are contracted to X and Wod. One instance is the wild hunt (a.k.a. Wodan's wild hunt) here Wod is used.

The word X was used to represent Greek theos and Latin deus in Bible translations, first in the Gothic translation of the New Testament by Ulfilas.

Greek "θεός " (theos) means X in English. It is often connected with Greek "θέω" (theō), "run", and "θεωρέω" (theoreō), "to look at, to see, to observe", Latin feriae "holidays", fanum "temple", and also Armenian di-k` "Xs". Alternative suggestions (e.g. by De Saussure) connect *dhu̯es- "smoke, spirit", attested in Baltic and Germanic words for "spook" and ultimately cognate with Latin fumus "smoke." The earliest attested form of the word is the Mycenaean Greek te-o(plural te-o-i), written in Linear B syllabic script.

Potti Sreeramulu and Jatin Nath Das are the best examples for this method of death.

Potti Sreeramulu (pictured) was an Indian freedom fighter known for his pivotal role in the creation of Andhra State. Revered as "Amarajeevi", he is remembered for his commitment to social justice and the upliftment of Dalits.

Sreeramulu took part in the Indian Independence Movement and was imprisoned for participating in the 1930 Salt Satyagraha. Between 1941 and 1942, he participated in the individual satyagraha and the Quit India movement and was imprisoned on three occasions. Out of Ze Blue #2

In geometry, the truncated icosahedron is a polyhedron that can be constructed by truncating all of the regular icosahedron's vertices. It can be found in the application of geodesic dome structures such as those whose architecture Buckminster Fuller pioneered are often based on this structure. It is an example of an Archimedean solid, as well as a Goldberg polyhedron.

The truncated icosahedron is an Archimedean solid, meaning it is a highly symmetric and semi-regular polyhedron, and two or more different regular polygonal faces meet in a vertex. It has the same symmetry as the regular icosahedron, the icosahedral symmetry, and it also has the property of vertex-transitivity. The polygonal faces that meet for every vertex are one pentagon and two hexagons, and the vertex figure of a truncated icosahedron is 5 * 6^2. The truncated icosahedron's dual is pentakis dodecahedron, a Catalan solid, shares the same symmetry as the truncated icosahedron.

In this Archimedean Solid, if the edges are curved and it resembles a spherical shape, it will result in the creation of an everyday object in most households.

Another type of this everyday object can be a chamfered dodecahedron.

A chamfered dodecahedron is a convex polyhedron with 80 vertices, 120 edges, and 42 faces: 30 hexagons and 12 pentagons. It is constructed as a chamfer (edge-truncation) of a regular dodecahedron. The pentagons are reduced in size and new hexagonal faces are added in place of all the original edges. Its dual is the pentakis icosidodecahedron.

It is also called a truncated rhombic triacontahedron, constructed as a truncation of the rhombic triacontahedron. It can more accurately be called an order-5 truncated rhombic triacontahedron because only the order-5 vertices are truncated.

Both the truncated icosahedron and the chamfered dodecahedron possess either 120-160 cells but in these everyday objects they are enlarged to form 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons, both regular, to make the distinct appearance.

Nets of solids below.

The object is found mostly in households of sports enthusiasts or households having children.

Legal Eagle #2

The Fraternal Order of the Eagles, founded in 1898, Seattle, is best known for its missions looking into social issues and is renowned for establishing, officially, the mother's day.

In the 1940s, E J Ruegemer, a Minnesota Juvenile Court Judge and a member of the Fraternal Order wanted to set in motion a plan that would "solidify" the foundations and moral principles of the youth.

Cecil deMille, who caught wind of E J's plan, began to support his plan vocally and started helping the Fraternal Order and E J to make it a reality. Cecil deMille was an appropriate person to help in the project, considering that he directed a movie with the same name X as the aim of the project, which won several academy awards.

There were problems post-establishment though.

Stone vs. Graham, supreme court ruled that the existence of X in the Kentucky Public School classrooms was unconstitutional as it violated the Establishments Clause of the First Amendment.

In Van Orden vs. Perry, the supreme court ruled that it was ultimately not unconstitutional to have Xs in courtrooms as they are religious texts and doctrines, not any legal codes or common law which the United States is based on.

X was given by YHWH or Tetragrammaton to Y and was originally called the decalouge. YHWH is the Jewish god.
